Penn State Certificate in Teaching with Technology Portfolio

The Teaching with Technology certificate program is managed by Penn State’s College of the Liberal Arts, and its chief requirement is a portfolio that demonstrates competencies in successfully integrating technology and teaching practices. I approach this portfolio as a key intersection between my research and teaching: in my research, I study stories about the technology industry and critically appraise what are often depicted as inevitable and necessary technologies and futures. This inflects my teaching practices, such that my adoption of education technologies is always with an eye towards the digital literacies that are necessary for their responsible use by teachers and students, and towards the politics and power structures inevitably built into technology products.

I incorporate technologies into my teaching as both pedagogical tools, and as the starting points for teaching moments and generative conversations about how to effectively and critically engage with our increasingly digitally mediated world.
